Laser Spider Vein Removal

What You Should Know

During laser/light therapy, a laser is applied to the spider veins.  The photons are absorbed by the blood cells in the veins, generating heat which destroys the blood vessel.  The damaged vessel shrinks and eventually dissolves over time. Laser is considered the treatment of choice for facial spider veins.   It can be used on other parts of the body as well.  It is not effective on the larger veins of the legs.

Possible risks can include:

• Pain

• Swelling

• Discoloration

• Bleeding

• Infection

• Scarring

• Crusting

 

Before The Procedure

• Avoid sunbathing, tanning beds or waxing for two weeks prior to the procedure.

• Avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements due to increased risk of bleeding.

• It may take up to several weeks to see the full effect of the procedure.  Multiple treatments may be required.
